About

WHAT WE BELIEVE AT DMK

Advanced exercise training of patients/clients who have survived critical illness, trauma or joint replacement can counteract negative, self-perpetuating conditions of weakness, fatigue, and functional impairment that limit mobilization and impede return to normalcy. The social interaction provided by mainstreaming these patients/clients into a health and fitness center alters their perceptions of their own potential. Moreover, cycles of positive reinforcement develop as patients/clients see other similarly de-conditioned clients making significant progress.

PHYSICAL TRAINING

Physical training has profound effects on three major life domains: physical, mental, and psychosocial functioning. The physical benefits of training are self-evident, including improvement in gait, balance, strength, flexibility, and endurance. Improvements in cognitive function are seen in the realms of memory, concentration, and focus, among others. Dedication to training and the effort exerted improves energy and attention, ultimately enhancing cognitive ability. Finally, engagement in a health-promoting social environment facilitates positive interpersonal relations, fosters goals, and deters feelings of dependence or helplessness. Our belief is that intensive physical training with deliberate safe progression is a logical extension of the continuum of rehabilitation following critical illness and trauma, should be viewed as an essential component of critical care. Neuromuscular and muscular-skeletal diseases also greatly benefit from this same approach.

Our team of experts is here to assist each individual client to meet his or her goals and to enjoy optimum quality of life.
